“My Paintings Are a Hommage to Life.”
This assertion might just be the right title for the enchanting prints of this edition. They are part of a series of works entitled ”What a Wonderful World“, created by the artist in the second half of the 1990’s. They have always occupied a special place in his œuvre. The paintings are reminiscent of children’s drawings. In fact, Alfred Lichter has always held the unbelievable expressive power of naive children’s art and its touching lyricism in high regard. His fascination with the artlessness and yet surprising narrative power of children’s drawings inspired him to explore similar stylistic tools for himself.
The paintings exhibit an imaginative interplay of pictorial and graphic elements. They have a wonderful way of transporting us into a world reminiscent of fairy tales, where reality and fiction are woven into cheerful, yet enigmatic stories.
